Aipan Art is a traditional ritualistic folk art form from Uttarakhand, India. It is mainly created by the women of the Kumaon region and is known for its intricate white patterns drawn on red backgrounds. The designs are mostly geometric, floral, and mythological, used for religious ceremonies, festivals, and decoration.
✅ Geru (Red Clay/Red Ochre) – Used to prepare the base.
✅ Rice Paste (Biswar) – White paste made from ground rice mixed with water, used for drawing patterns.
✅ Brushes or Fingers – Traditionally, Aipan is drawn using fingers, but modern artists use fine brushes.
🔹 Swastik & Lotus Motifs – Symbolize prosperity and divinity.
🔹 Alpana (Circular Patterns) – Used in religious rituals.
🔹 Panchadev Aipan – Represents the five deities (Shiva, Ganesha, Vishnu, Durga, and Surya).
🔹 Lakshmi Peeth – Drawn during Diwali to welcome Goddess Lakshmi.
🔹 Jyoti Patta – A special design made during weddings.
